Principal Building Control Surveyor Bristol, Hull/York, London - Salary negotiable depending on experience

With responsibility for overseeing the delivery of exceptional performance, you will effectively lead and manage a regional team. Ensuring all surveyors are fully equipped (both technically and professionally) to deliver in their roles, you will be required to share your knowledge and experience whilst driving consistency and standardisation in expectations, policy, process and approach across the Group. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be a major contributor in successfully delivering the local business plan, in addition to:

  • Advising clients on building regulations and related matters to ensure compliance with the building regulations and associated legislation.
  • Checking drawings and associated information to ensure compliance with the building regulations and associated legislation on a variety of projects.
  • Carrying out inspections of work during construction to ensure compliance with the building regulations and associated legislation on a variety of projects and uploading/inputting site records accordingly.
  • Carrying out inspections on behalf of other Building Surveyors where the work falls within the boundary of your region.
  • Ensuring that all project/inspection records etc. are accurately recorded on the company computer-based BCA management system.
  • Writing technical reports.
  • Mentoring and supporting training mechanisms in-line with the needs of the company’s training department, including supporting the trainees within your team.
  • Identifying gaps in the industry and devising solutions for the Group.
  • Recruit and manage a client base to meet targets agreed with the Regional Operations Manager.
  • Review team financial performance and report these to the Operations Manager.

As a high-performing individual, you will possess a strong academic background and positive approach, coupled with the ability to share best practice and set challenging but realistic targets. The successful candidate will be a great motivator who celebrates success but can also actively manage poor performance if required. 

Chartered membership of a professional institution (MRICS, MCABE, MCIOB) and substantial post-qualification experience within a building control role is essential.
